Membership Information

The first thing people ask after hearing one of our remote base frequencies is, "This sounds like fun,
how do I become a member?"  The answer, listen to the system.  Listen to the people talking and to
what they talk about.  You will notice that the system offers a unique blend of technical exchange mixed
with personal communication.  After listening for a while, truly decide if you want to become involved in
the unique aspect of amateur radio that the Southwest Remote Radio Club (SwRRC) has to offer.

If you decide that membership is for you, listen to the call signs of the members talking.  See if you
know someone. To become a member, you must be "sponsored" in writing, by a current SwRRC
member in your local area.  If you don't know any members, continue listening. Many members talk
about amateur and other activities that they are involved in and you can get to know them through these
other activities.  The reason you must be sponsored by an existing member is simple.  With a system as
large and unique as the SwRRC, we need to ensure the system is enjoyable for every member to
operate.

We are also looking for individuals that will be committed to a long-term membership obligation. Many
of the people who were members at the inception of this system in 1987, formerly known as Intertie
System, are still actively involved today. This long-term membership goal is another reason that the "by
recommendation only" membership requirement was established.

SwRRC as well as each of the affiliate clubs, is a private, dues paying
membership organization. In order to use any of the remote base radios within the SwRRC, you must be
a member of the SRRC or one of the affiliate clubs.  This will depend on which area you reside in and
where most of your operating will be done.

If you would like to be contacted regarding membership, drop a postcard or letter with your name, call

Note:

If you are located in Southern California, the information on this page contains all the information necessary for you to pursue membership in the SwRRC. You must contact an existing member for a letter of recommendation.  If you live outside Southern California your request will be forwarded to the affiliate group in your local area. Most affiliate groups have similar requirements.
